We Must Be Living Intercessors

In this month of July we celebrate the great Martyr Panteleimon, a healing saint who died in the year 305.  Responsible for miraculous healing, he is remembered and asked for intercession.  When we reflect on this great healing saint of our church who freely gives the service of healing through intercessory prayers, we should realize that our mission in this world is just the same.

Many people are hurting.  In this world, pain seems to be the one thing in the life that is constant. Given enough time pain comes and seems to have no mercy.  But it is truly the love of God which is constant despite living in a fallen world full of pain and injury.

If we are to be like God as Christ has directed us, then we are called to act when no one else will and reach out when all others have given up, we are to look past the pain and confusion the other people see and recognize the face of a child of God within, the true face of the true person.  Let us reflect on how we may reach out to those in need by visiting a sick friend, volunteering at a shelter, or just be the ear and listen to someone in need.

May we understand our place in this world in the light of Christ and not the darkness, to see that we all need to be living intercessors as one family in Christ, offering up prayers for all those around us, and helping those in need.

In Christ’s Love,

Fr Ted Toppses
