Tides of Change

Time seems to be a luxury during this time of the year for most.  We see the leaves change and another summer has passed.  Animals begin their migration.  This time prepares us for the coming winter.  Change is upon us; ready or not.

Through our time on this earth we learn to live our life in various ways.  Some people’s lives fluctuate with the seasons; some have activities that stay the same throughout.  This earth is such a beautiful gift and the rhythm of this gift teaches us great things.

God is patient in all He does, and though things change His patience endures and leads to greater truth.  As the tides of the ocean seem to be change, they are also regular and consistent.  The tides of change remind us that change itself will come but the things that are most important will forever be.  Our love for God, our Family, our Faith will endure all these things, all this time in our life so unhinged.

The waves come and seek to change us.  Standing in the sands of time our feet soon are covered and as the waters of the world sweep over us the rhythm of the power of God is felt.  The more we try to stand on our own the more we fight and soon we enter the water to ride what is the rhythm of Gods blessing and the waves are no longer against us but for us and the change that one was different has become our own.

So this amazing metaphor of life in the ocean of the tides, that show us change also shows the eternity of life and how our actions in opposition to Gods will, will set us up to be battered and harmed, but to be with the water and ride the tide and waters frees us to a life that transcends change and builds foundations of faith in God, Love and Hope.

May patience guide you and teach you the ways of God in this life, transcending the now to the forever in the Will of our God, salvation through Christ our Lord.

In Christ’s Love,

The Tides of Change (A poem by Fr Ted Toppses)

When I closed my eyes I could again see the ocean,

Riding on her waves and flowing in the tide,

I fought with all my might to free myself from this power,

With exhaustion coming close to despair,

I felt the power that far surpassed my own,

And with a quick turn of my heart,

I realized my mistake,

I began to go with the waves and water,

And the will of God was what I sought,

Doing God’s will I ride the waves and water freely,

I am able to do and receive amazing things,

And soon the struggle against His Will became distant,

And my life became worthwhile and full,

With great stride and bearing I rode,

Towards the end we all face,

Yet His Will instead of pouring out against me,

Gave me strength and hope and courage,

And it gave me end not of sorrow,

But of hope and joy found in Him,

Riding on the waters of His Will,

I am now Home.
